Hobbit Hill Wedding Pianist

Craig Smith plays piano during a Hobbit Hill wedding ceremony.

Hobbit Hill is one of the Ribble Valley’s newer wedding venues, offering a modern, relaxed setting with a strong focus on personality and individuality. With indoor and woodland ceremony options and a large open-plan reception space, it’s a venue where couples can shape the day to suit their own style, and the atmosphere often builds quickly into something lively and memorable.

Craig has been performing at Hobbit Hill since 2022, including at the venue’s showcase events, and understands how to make the most of its flexible layout. From woodland ceremonies to a busy, guest-led wedding breakfast packed with requests, his setup and approach are designed to match the music perfectly to your day.

Wedding Piano at Hobbit Hill

Music at Hobbit Hill usually begins as guests take their seats for the ceremony. Ceremonies can take place either in the dedicated ceremony room or outdoors in the woods. For woodland ceremonies, Craig uses a compact white electric piano with a built-in speaker system, allowing live music to be performed easily in the outdoor setting without the need for additional equipment or a difficult load in along the bark pathway.

Inside, most couples choose a portable baby grand piano for the ceremony room, although the compact setup can also be used where space is tighter. This flexibility means the music can always be positioned in the best place for both sound and atmosphere.

Drinks receptions and wedding breakfasts take place in the venue’s large open-plan space, with glass doors opening out onto the patio. Craig can perform either indoors or outside, depending on the weather and how couples want the day to feel, helping to create a relaxed start that builds into a more interactive, upbeat atmosphere as the day progresses.

Wedding breakfasts at Hobbit Hill are often particularly lively, with guests getting involved in the music and making requests using Craig’s Electronic Requests System. Music typically finishes at the end of the wedding breakfast, making this the main focus for entertainment during the day, and the ideal time to build towards a fantastic evening party.

Experience & Venue Knowledge

Having worked at Hobbit Hill regularly since its early years, Craig is familiar with how weddings run there and how best to use the different spaces. From setting up for woodland ceremonies to managing quick transitions into the reception, his experience helps everything run smoothly without interrupting the flow of the day.

Hobbit Hill couples often look for something a bit different musically, and that’s reflected in their song choices. Ceremony music regularly goes beyond the traditional, with recent weddings featuring everything from dance tracks and alternative rock to Japanese video game themes, and of course Concerning Hobbits from The Lord of the Rings. Craig’s adaptable style and wide repertoire make it easy to bring those ideas to life while keeping the music engaging for guests and maintaining a consistent "soundtrack" across the day.
